It is finally August 7, Dr.Dre has officially released ‘Compton’ through Apple Music. The album premiered at 11pm (6pm in the States) being played on a loop for three hours on Apple Radio. Dre announced on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show earlier today that the album’s royalties will be donated to fund a new arts and entertainment center in Compton. Commenting on this, Dre said; “I feel it’s the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album.” He expressed that he will be working on the center with Compton Mayor Aja Brown and her office. “We’ve reached out to Aja Brown quite a few times in the last month or two, I’ve been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn’t quite figure out what it was. She actually had this idea and she was already in the process of working on it. I said, ‘Boom, this is what we should do.'”
He continued by telling Lowe that he worked with emerging artists on this album. “The new artists I got like King Mez and Justus, these two guys actually came in and just grinded with me throughout the entire project, As a matter of fact, most of the lyrics are written by us three. We would just go into the studio, put up the track and for some reason, the stars aligned and we killed it, man.”
The album also includes features from; Kendrick Lamar, Jill Scott, Eminem, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and The Game to name a few.
Even though the long awaited ‘Detox’ album was abandoned completely due to Dre not being satisfied with the finished project, he seems satisfied with this ‘Compton’ album as he said he wanted to do something special for Compton.
