Why is the music industry blackballing SoundCloud?

PRS is a company that represents songwriters, composers and music publishers, and collects royalties on their behalf whenever an artists music is publicly performed.

After being in a situation, which is described as “no alternative to commence legal proceedings”, PRS for Music will be taking SoundCloud to court.

This is because of a letter that Music Week saw, which was sent to PRS for Music members today, and the letter basically explained that SoundCloud have said that they do not need a PRS for Music licence for its service, which is available through the UK and Europe, on their website and app. Therefore no payments have ever been made from the plays on their platform.

PRS for Music commented: “If the streaming market is to reach its true potential and offer a fair return for our members, organisations such as SoundCloud must pay for their use of our members’ music.”

250 tracks have already been taken down from SoundCloud, as PRS for Music sent a list of 4,500 musical works of their songwriters and publishers, claiming that no payments were made for them, so they need to be taken down.

Pusha T Album Cover Revealed!!

Kanye West revealed two album covers for Pusha T’s new album ‘My Name Is My Name’. Both covers are designed by DONDA and the first cover features a barcode on a white background, whilst the second cover features a blacked out image of Pusha T’s upper body with this head tilted back. The two covers are very unique and received positive feedback on Twitter.

My Name Is My Name will be released October 8 and will feature artists such as Kanye West, Future, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar and Chris Brown.

DRAKE AND THE WEEKND BURY THE HATCHET

It seems that Drake and The Weeknd are back in the studio together once again, even though they fell out over speculation that The Weeknd did not sign to the rappers label. However the singer denied these rumours.

Drake posted a photo of them two in the studio with the caption “@abelxo SCARY THINGS”.

The Weeknd had told Complex that Drake was okay with the decisions he made therefore the speculation over why they fell out was not true. Drake also commented on the matter on EVR Radio by explaining that the XO singer was going to do something that he knew would be the right decision and he is supportive of that.

Hopefully we should be hearing another hit coming from the OVO and XO collaboration.

Kanye West Vents On Twitter About Leaked Video !!

The other day, Kanye West’s video for his single ‘Black Skinhead’, off his Yeezus album, was leaked online. However the rapper has confirmed on his Twitter that the video is not the official release, but will be officially released next week. He also has claimed in his tweets that him, alongside Nick Knight, have been working on the video for 5 months.

Jay Z Is Releasing A New Album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ Next Month!

During a commercial for Samsung, which Jay Z appeared in, it was revealed the rapper would be releasing his new album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ next month.

The video for the commercial shows Jay Z speaking with Rick Rubin, Swizz Beats, Pharrell and Timberland on what he wants to hear on his album.

The partnership the rapper has with Samsung Galaxy will allow the Samsung users to download an app, which will allow them to receive the album for free, three days before the official release date, which is July 7.

It seems very soon for Jay to release his album since Yeezus and Born Sinner are new releases, who knows what the rapper had in mind.

Rick Ross Dropped By REEBOK Over Controversial Lyric!!

Reebok have announced they are dropping Rick Ross from the company, as they do not want to be associated with him anymore. This decision has been made based on the rapper’s controversial lyric on Rocko’s song ‘U.O.E.N.O’, where he raps: “Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it, I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know.”

Reebok had no choice but to make this decision as the women’s rights group UltraViolet also applied pressure on this whole situation.

Reebok tells TMZ: “Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand.  Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so.”

Reebok also claimed:  “While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse.”

However Rick Ross has not commented yet on this situation, but seems to be focusing on his music as he recently has tweeted saying: “For the ‪#new ‪http://www.soundcloud.com/rickyrozaymmg.”

Wonder how the rapper actually feels about this situation since God Forgives.. Reebok Don’t ..

Beyonce’s ‘Back To Black’ Cover Features On The New Trailer Of The Great Gatsby!

It had already been announced that Beyonce would be doing her own cover of the late Amy Winehouse’s classic single ‘Back to Black’ and this caused speculation all over Twitter and Facebook. However nothing was going to stop Mrs Carter from what she wants to do and now the cover is featured on the trailer for The Great Gatsby, which is directed by Baz Luhrmann.

Songs from Lana Del Rey and Florence and the Machine are also featured on the trailer.  Beyonce’s hubby Jay Z also is involved in the movie, as he is the main man behind the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby.
